Who We Are

Connect
The Plateau Women's Chorus is a nonprofit organization founded in 2018 by the women of Cumberland County. Under the artistic direction of Dana Beal, the choir has flourished from a small ensemble of women to a 60-member chorale performing at a high level of choral distinction. Our repertoire is vast - ranging across many cultures, eras, and genres. Membership has grown to include women from all walks of life, spanning high school age to retirement.
PWC provides women with the opportunity to express themselves through song by publicly performing music written predominantly for women and by women. We are committed to artistic integrity and commissioning new works for women’s voices.
Plateau Women’s Chorus fosters a deep sense of community among its members. We support each other, have fun, and work together to achieve artistic excellence. The chorus strives to provide encouragement, community, and inspiration to its audience, donors, and members.

Artistic Director
Dana Beal
A passionate advocate for the representation of women’s voices, Dana Beal is the founding director of Plateau Women's Chorus and Young Singers of the Plateau. Under her artistic leadership the Plateau Women's Chorus has flourished to a high level of choral excellence and vocal performance. A Virginia native, Dana has been a choral conductor and music educator for more than 35 years, directing high school choirs to superior ratings at contests and conducting festival choruses and musicals at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. In 2014, Dana was honored as the American Legion Teacher of the Year, Southern Region, Florida and in 2015 she was named as a Monroe County School District, Florida Teacher of the Year.
Dana received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, where she studied conducting, piano, voice, and choral methods. She received her Master of Music from Southwestern Theological Seminary with a concentration in conducting in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mrs. Beal is certified in Kodaly' methodology and Advanced Placement Music Theory and Choral Music Education with Dr. Dorreen Rao. Dana is an active member of the Tennessee American Choral Directors Association (TN ACDA), Tennesseans for the Arts, Arts Round-Up of Cumberland County and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and Choristers Guild.
When not immersed in choral music, Dana serves as the Coordinator of STARTS (SupportTheARTS). STARTS raises funds for the fine arts programs of Cumberland County Schools in Tennessee. She enjoys traveling, hiking, paddleboarding, and volunteering at Crossville First Methodist Church. Dana and her husband, Paul, make their home in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee and play with the Cumberland County Community Band. The Beals have three grown children and two grandsons.

Accompanist
Carol Tausan
Carol has been a member of the PWC since 2018. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree specializing in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal/instrumental combination with piano as her primary instrument. She spent 35 years teaching K-8 general/vocal music. While doing so, she earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum
and Instruction. Her colleagues voted her Teacher of the Year at three different schools in Colorado and Florida. However, her most significant accomplishment was completing the stringent requirements to earn National Board Certification in Early/Middle Childhood Music.
During junior high, Carol began accompanying school choirs. She continued throughout high school and college and still assists with programs at local churches and assisted living facilities. She has performed piano duets and provided accompaniment for soloists.
Carol’s other interests are cooking, reading, playing Mah Jongg and Bunco (all closely observed by her fur buddy Blaze.) She is also the group leader for a ladies golf league. Lastly, she enjoys traveling and attending concerts with her husband Criss and especially loves listening to all types of Jazz.
